Publishing Policy
Professional guidelines for responsible press release distribution
Editorial Overview
Understanding our standards
At Widecast PR, we are committed to providing a platform that promotes responsible and ethical publishing practices. This Publishing Policy outlines the guidelines and standards we expect our users to adhere to when publishing content on our platform. By using our platform, you acknowledge and agree to the practices described in this policy.
Widecast PR's editorial staff reviews all press releases before distribution to ensure that content is newsworthy, accurate, and in an acceptable press release format. Attention to the following guidelines will help your press release get speedy approval and distribution.
Widecast PR press releases must contain a clear, timely, and newsworthy angle and be free of advertising hype, direct address, and spam.
Policy Guidelines
Review each guideline carefully to ensure your content meets our standards
1. Newsworthy Content
Content must be timely and focus on a genuine news angle (e.g., new product/service, event, milestone, or expert opinion). The news announcement must be clearly stated in the headline. Do not use the platform for general interest articles, "open letters," or content that lacks attribution and news value.
2. Objective Tone
Press releases must maintain an objective tone. They should be free of direct address (i.e., "you," "I," "we," etc.) unless exclamation points, hyperbolic claims (e.g., "AMAZING"), and excessive use of upper-case characters.
3. Legally Accurate
All press releases referencing legal action or criminal matters must include sufficient documentation, such as a case number, court of record, or complaint number.
4. Third-Party Sites
Widecast PR is not responsible for the privacy practices or content of linked third-party sites. Users are responsible for ensuring the privacy and confidentiality of their information when accessing external links.
5. Valid Contact Info
Press releases must contain a valid phone number and e-mail address in the designated contact information section.
6. Written Authorization
Widecast PR may require written authorization from a company executive for major corporate announcements (e.g., M&A), use of stock ticker symbols, or releases from independent representatives of network marketing/MLM companies.
7. Standard Length
Press releases should be between 300 and 800 words. The news summary should be limited to 1 to 2 sentences. Releases must be free of spelling and grammatical errors. Define industry jargon and acronyms for a general audience.
8. Widecast PR Formatting
Releases cannot contain HTML tags, non-standard characters, tables, forced line breaks, or be written entirely in all capital letters. All links must be functional at the time of submission.
9. A Clear News Source
A clear news source (the company or organization issuing the release) must be identified in the headline. The source's relation to the announcement should be clear.
10. Advertisements
Press releases must be written in a standard news format with a journalistic angle—not to sell directly to consumers. Content that reads like an advertisement must be rewritten.
11. Personal Opinions
Widecast PR will not distribute content intended to harm or exact personal revenge against a person or group. Releases on political or sensitive topics are accepted only if opinions are appropriately attributed and the content does not contain unsubstantiated allegations or excessive hyperbole.
12. Unaccepted File Attachment Types
We only accept attachments with the following extensions: jpeg, gif, png, tiff, bmp, ps, pdf, doc*, xl*, rtf, ppt, mpeg, mp*, and mov.
13. Sexually Explicit Content
We do not accept content about or referencing sexually explicit material, illegal material, or profane language. This includes links to any 18-and-older websites.
14. SPAM
Avoid excessive use or high density of words and/or phrases commonly found in advertisements or spam (e.g., girls, amazing, FREE, sex, buy, "make money," etc.).
15. Link SPAM
Please limit your link count to a maximum of 1 link per 100 words of body text.
16. Blog Posts
Blog posts, general interest articles, and "open letters" are not an acceptable press release format due to a typical lack of attribution and/or news value.
17. Opinion Pieces
Releases may include attributed opinions on topical subjects but should not consist solely of opinion. Unattributed opinions may be flagged as advertising.
18. Reprints
Reprints of copyrighted news articles, feature images, opinion columns, or stories from other publications are not considered press releases.
19. Fiction
All users must agree to submit only accurate and factual information.
20. Duplicate Content
Do not submit the same release more than once, as this negatively impacts search indexing.
21. Intent to Harm
Widecast PR does not distribute content intended to incite, advocate, or express hatred, bigotry, racism, or violence; promote personal attacks; maliciously affect a company's stock; or stalk, defame, defraud, degrade, shame, or victimize an individual or group.
22. Unauthorized Ticker Symbols
Authorization from the source company is required for the use of any stock ticker symbol.
23. Prohibited Topics
Widecast PR does not publish releases that promote or link to:
- Online Gambling: Including fantasy sports and related sites.
- Streaming Video Sites: Content from premium broadcast providers without direct authorization.
- Payday or Short Term Loans.
- Online Pharmaceuticals: Excluding online pharmacies where a doctor's prescription is explicitly required for purchase (no sexual enhancement products/supplements).
